OD Chat Group: Burnout Isn’t an Individual Failure. It’s a Leadership Condition.

July 30 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
OD Chat Group

Most burnout work asks the wrong question: what’s wrong with this person? Dr. Joey Collins, clinical psychologist, executive coach, and founder of Collins Alliance, spent the last year studying burnout in professional services. The data points elsewhere: 72% of leaders in his national study of accounting professionals are at risk or already burning out. That’s not a wellness gap. It’s a leadership gap.

In the OD Chat Group July 30th, Joey will walk us through the research behind his Firm Burnout Profile, unpack the WAVE model for reading a team’s real-time climate, and share field-tested tools for leaders who are already in it. Not more prevention theory, but the practicalities of what to actually do in the first 72 hours when a client team is burning out.

Expect a working session: short on lecture, heavy on application. We’ll dig into the material together, and you’ll leave with tools you can use with clients the next day.

Pre-work: a crisis pack Joey built for leaders mid-burnout will be shared with you when you register. Go through it as if you were the client. It’s a quick, honest way to feel what your clients feel when they open something like this. It’ll shape a lot of what we do on the 30th.

About Dr. Joey Collins

Dr. Joey A. Collins, Psy.D., is a clinical psychologist, executive coach, and founder of Collins Alliance. He maintains a botique clinical practice alongside his consulting work, giving him a ground-level view of what chronic workplace stress actually does to people, not just what the research says about it. He is also a co-founder of the I-O Doctorate and MA programs at Seattle Pacific University (SPU).
Over the past year, Joey and his research team has been studying burnout in the accounting profession, developing the Firm Burnout Profile and the WAVE model for reading team climate in real time. His work reframes burnout as a leadership condition rather than an individual failing and gives leaders concrete tools to act on that shift, not just a framework to think about it. He’s currently writing his second book, When Work Doesn’t Work, which extends this research into a broader look at organizational burnout.
